Mystery shiny objects floating over Manhattan spark UFO frenzy

A mysterious shiny object floating high over Manhattan‘s West Side set off a flurry of reports and wild speculation Wednesday that a UFO was flying over the city.

Police and the FAA said they began getting flooded with calls starting at 1:30 p.m. from people reporting a silvery object hovering high over Chelsea.

Law enforcement sources said they believed the object was likely some sort of balloon, but as of late Wednesday they had not confirmed exactly what it is.

A Daily News reporter could see a tiny, silver dot floating approximately 5,000 feet above 23th St. and Eighth Ave., where dozens of people gathered late in the afternoon to catch a glimpse.

“It’s been hovering there for a while. I’m just kind of baffled,” said Joseph Torres, 49, of Dyker HeightsBrooklyn, who spotted the object after leaving a movie. “How can it be ordinary? There is something going on.”

Despite clear skies, it was not easy to make out the tiny object shimmering overhead.

Mysterious shiny objects like this one sparked wild speculation of UFOs floating over Manhattan's West Side.

Project Blue Beam is a conspiracy theory that claims that NASA is attempting to implement a New Age religion with the Antichrist at its head and start a New World Order, via a technologically simulated Second Coming.

The allegations were contained in an audio presentation in 1994 by Quebecois journalist turned conspiracy theorist Serge Monast and later published in his bookProject Blue Beam (NASA). Proponents of the theory allege that Monast and another journalist, who both died of heart attacks in 1996, were in fact assassinated. In addition, the Canadian government allegedly kidnapped Monast’s daughter in an effort to dissuade him from investigating Project Blue Beam.[1]

The project was apparently supposed to be implemented in 1983,[2] but was delayed. It was then set for implementation in 1995 and then 1996.[3] Monast thought Project Blue Beam would be brought to fruition by the year 2000[4], really, definitely, for sure.

Thankfully we have real researchers like Richard Dolan to smash corny old USENET disinfo like “Project Blue Beam,” as he did in his blog today, pointing out that the entire theory is completely unsupported by any evidence of any kind and was cooked up by a radical Fundamentalist French Canadian separatist:Monast was strongly Christian in his outlook, was affiliated with a political movement that promoted French separatism in Canada…He shows no evidence of moving in the elite circles that presumably would have inside information about NASA or the United Nations. I have a difficult time of seeing how Monast got any true inside information. His writings show no evidence of actual investigation.
